common mistakes while speaking English : Adrobook


Mistakes are done by everyone and we do mistakes while speaking in English and each and every individual is having their own ways of expressing and people who starts learning English will make mistakes along the way.

Yes, it happens with everyone even when I’m leaning English I used to make lots of mistakes where my friends are making fun of mine but taking it as a learning experience I have started learning English, so don’t ever mind in making mistakes.

Here are some of the suggestions and mistakes that are done in our day to day conversations:
Much, more, less
Here are some nouns which occur only in singular form
Incorrect way: there is much dusts, there is more encourages, she had less funs
Correct way: there is much dust, there is more courage, she had less fun



Less, fewer
These are countable nouns
Incorrect: there were less people left in town
Correct: there are few people left in town

Possession shared by two nouns
Incorrect: it was pretty’s and shinny’s home
Correct: it was pretty and shinny’s home

Me/I
Incorrect: give it to I, Ravi and me took the class. He writes as well as me
Correct: give it to me. Ravi and I took the class. He writes as well as I

Linking verbs take the adjective form
Incorrect: the corn smells badly. I felt badly
Correct:  the corn smells bad. I felt bad

Adverbs with “ly”:
Incorrect: he spoke to her quiet. She shouted as loud as the rest of the people
Correct: he spoke to her quietly. She shouted as loudly as the rest of the people

Subject/verb agreement:
Incorrect: one of the buses are late. Each of the bicycles are fast
Correct:  one of the buses is late. Each of the bicycles are fast.

Plurals and correct verbs:
Incorrect: the wages is little. The scissors are broken. The people is coming
Correct: the wages are little. The scissors is broken. The people are coming.

Any other
Incorrect: Andhra Pradesh is bigger than any other states in India
Correct: Andhra Pradesh is bigger than any other state in India.

Parallelism and verb agreement:
Incorrect: he learned to play cricket, to swim and sail
Correct: he learned to play cricket, to swim and to sail

An/a:
Incorrect: it is a old radio set, but still works. It is an costly purchase
Correct; it is an old radio set, but still works. It is a costly purchase.

Among/ between:
Incorrect: she could not decide among the two things
Correct: she could not decide between the two things

Bring:
Incorrect: she will take the book to his friends
Correct: she will bring the book to his friends

Deadly:
Incorrect: a cockroach sting can be deathly
Correct: a cockroach sting can be deadly

Hardly/ barely/ scarcely:
Incorrect: he was not hardly finished the work
Correct: he was hardly finished the work.
